Delving into the mind of a medical student

blumescheisse asked: Do you think you have you do Maths A-Level for medical school? I want to do Biology, Chemistry, German and Economics. Do you think that sounds alright? I think I would get a better grade in Economics than Maths.. Also, what did you get you get in you GCSE's? :)

You don’t have to do Maths at all! If you don’t want to, don’t :)

My GCSEs were all 11 A*s

vitaminsforthought asked: I interviewed two days ago for Imperial... I was wondering what your interview was like. Did you think you did well? Also what's your favorite and least favorite aspect of medicine at Imperial? Does Imperial's estimated living expenses actually cover living in London? Is accommodation nice? Sorry, that's a lot of questions, but I really loved campus when I visited and I'm really interested in attending :)

Sorry for taking ages, I haven’t been on here in yolks.

My interview was very short, really only about 3 or 4 minutes long, no lie. I think it was a good interview in that they probably made their mind up straight away about whether or not they wanted me.

I love medicine here, there’s actually nothing I don’t like, perfect course, though that’s just me because I genuinely get excited about everything aha.

Living expenses aren’t that much different, the only big cost is the accommodation, which are SO GOOD, if you get housing in South Kensington :)

been so long

Oh god, things are busy, and I’m shattered from cycling

just chilling

In the library…as you do. Though not chilling. I thought I’d come here to get a quiet place to relax and do work, yet here I am on tumblr just casually writing stuff in my head. It is quite serene and calm here though to be honest. I should get on with the work though. Busy day tomorrow and the day after too. Fun times.

madeoutofseashells asked: How difficult was it getting into med school? I hear of people applying to 12+ schools and getting rejected from all of them. Also if one doesn't go to a "top tier" school, do they have a disadvantage over others, and a less likely hood of getting accepted at all?

Getting in was pretty hard, though not as hard as I thought it would be. As a UK resident, and only using UCAS, I only applied to four medical schools. I guess it depends on how good your application is, because I got interviews pretty quick and offers came pretty swiftly afterwards. It depends on which ones you apply to as well. People getting rejected by 12+ med schools and getting rejected by all is just unfortunate.
Top tier schools? If I’m honest, people who go to ‘low tier’ schools and still get comparable grades to people in ‘top tier’ schools are better than them to be honest. And some medical schools do look at this. Some don’t. Trust me, if you’re intelligent enough to apply, then don’t worry about what school you went to.

hlffmyhrt asked: What year of Medical School are you in?

I’m a first year med student :)
